The responsibilities of this post at full working level are as follows. 

If more than one grade is available for this role and you are chosen at a lower grade level, you will have the chance to learn how to execute these tasks and receive training to advance in this position.

Technical Work:
Assists in preparing and maintaining regular production/inventory reports using established formats and sources of data applicable to the program, functional, or organizational reporting requirements. Prepares special reports as directed.
Performs a limited number of administrative tasks using an automated system which involves: assigning, maintaining, monitoring, or updating work status and inventory records; ordering research; acknowledging correspondence; maintaining, updating and initiating personnel records; timekeeping; and performing other support activity.
Prepares and maintains regular production/inventory reports/attendance records using established formats and sources of data applicable to the program, functional, or organizational reporting requirements. Prepares special reports as directed.

Task

 Routes mail to various locations inside and outside the organization; receives, opens, sorts, and distributes both incoming and outgoing mail and products. 

makes certain that all mail and items have the necessary information for proper delivery. 

maintains logs for the purpose of product and mail accountability.

examines correspondence not addressed to certain functional areas while screening papers, forms, and letters that are sent to or routed via multiple offices. 

Determines the information requested from the material that was initially marked as “unable to route” by screening it. Then, using a detailed understanding of the structures and roles of the various offices, one determines to which office the material should be sent. 

recognizes forms or documents that need special processing or priority treatment and handles them accordingly.

Execute all responsibilities pertaining to product disposal, inventory management, reception and acceptance, and delivery scheduling.

Undergo an income tax verification and review of prior performance/conduct.

Qualifications
Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. BASIC REQUIREMENT :
Basic Requirement GS-03:

  1. Applicants must meet the minimum age requirements and have 6 months of full time (40 hours per week) general experience.
  2. OR Have one (1) year of education above the high school level in any field of study obtained from an accredited junior college, college, university, business, secretarial or technical school. This means at least thirty (30) college semester/ forty-five (45) college quarter hours of education or 20 hours of formal classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school equaling 720 hours. Completion of an intensive, specialized course of study of less than one (1) year may also meet these requirements. This would normally require completion of up to 40 hours per week of instruction for at least 3 months duration, and may have been obtained through a variety of programs such as those offered by business or technical schools, and through military training programs.
  3. OR Have an equivalent amount of combined education and experience. The equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total requirements.
  4. All experience must demonstrate progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular competencies needed to perform the duties of this position. This may be paid or non-paid experience
  • Basic Requirement GS-04: To qualify at this grade level you must have: One (1) year or twelve (12 months) of general experience. General experience must demonstrate progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This may be paid or non-paid experience.
  • OR Two (2) years of education above the high school level (education may have been obtained in an accredited junior college, college, university, business, secretarial or technical school).Note: One full year of academic study is defined as 30 semester hours/45 quarter hours in an accredited junior college, college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school equaling 720 hours.
  • OR An equivalent amount of combined education and experience. The equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total requirements.

Basic Requirement: 

  1. GS-05 Level: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This may be paid or non-paid experience. Examples of qualifying experience may include conducting basic research and applying information as necessary, interacting and communicating (orally and in writing) with customers, performing office duties.
  2. OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: A Bachelor’s degree or four years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university.
  3. OR Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements

Additional information

  • A recruitment incentive has been authorized for eligible, highly qualified applicants. The incentive will be a $1,000 and will require a one-year service agreement.
